Friendship Heights Rehabilitation Center located in Maryland is a physical therapy clinic that specializes in restoring normal function to weak and de-conditioned muscle tissue. Our physical therapy programs incorporate spinal specific and supportive progressive resistance exercises, soft tissue management and specific stretching protocols. Briefly, we feel that physical therapy should be an active treatment and not a passive one.
With that in mind, we focus on exercise as our primary rehabilitation tool. While we are able to provide traditional passive modalities, these treatments are usually combined with exercise.
At FHR, we treat patients with a variety of illnesses, injuries and conditions. While injuries and post surgical conditions are different, most of these conditions have similar needs as it relates to the rehabilitation of the injured area. Many times the patient enters our office suffering from pain, tightness and weakness which result in difficulty walking, transferring and/or performing activities of daily living and working.
Patient Education & Repetition Are Important
Our physical therapy and wellness programs have a dual focus:
- Educating and motivating our patients and clients to use proper body mechanics and
- A slow repetition speed when performing exercises. This is crucial in order to isolate the damaged or targeted tissues. This will prevent larger muscle groups from "taking over" to do the work for the damaged or targeted muscles and joint systems. When exercises are performed appropriately, the patient's pain level decreases and their overall function improves.
At FHR, we design a rehabilitation program specific to each patient that is aimed at restoring function, strength and stability to the injured or deconditioned areas. We do this not only by performing different methods of treatment, but also by educating our patients on their condition and teaching them exercises to do at home for both during and after their treatment in our facility.
Locataed in the Metro DC area, our facilities are open from 7AM to 7PM, Monday through Thursday, 7AM to 5 PM, Friday, and 8AM – 1 PM Saturdays. We provide 1 hour of validated parking to our patients. We have the ability to schedule acute patients right away - just give us a call. Referrals can be made by phone or fax.
